Undergrad. on ex-partner apprenticeship case model

Did you enjoy the program? If yes, how?

Yes, it was the best professional learning experience I have ever had (seriously, not making this up).

Here’s how:

1 – The learning method was an apprenticeship model – I was mentored by a single mentor, as opposed to a traditional (virtual) classroom

2 – The instructor was a industry-expert – I was mentored by a former Partner of the top 3 Management Consulting firms

3 – The learning content was tailored to me – I had an assessment session in which the mentor designed a customized program

Did the program meet your expectations? If yes, how?

Yes, it even exceeded my expectations

Here’s how:

1 – I was given more amounts of training hours — not merely for the sake of more time, but due to better prepare my actual consulting interview

2 – I had the flexibility to discuss with the mentor (via chat) any other items related to Consulting (e.g. advice on managing my career, business education, anything that’s relevant)

What was the most important learning’s from the program?

Two things:

1 – How consultants think – Case Interview Structure: confirming & operationalizing the key question, setting up MECE structure, prioritizing the branches, proving the hypothesis and taking actionable next steps

2 – Integrity – maintain (very) high standards of trust and confidentiality with  clients

Do you feel the program provided an advantage for you versus your own/other preparation? If so, in what way?

Vs. Self-study:

Case interview books don’t provide me with real / actual case interview experience

Vs. Other case interview providers (e.g. fellow candidates, [Redacted], [Redacted], etc)

The apprenticeship model and Firmsconsulting’s sheer focus and volume of Management Consulting content (e.g. audio / video cast / books / slides / spreadsheets) is what differentiates it against other case interview providers

Can you recall any memorable moments?

A funny moment — when the instructor asked me where I had learned about this framework, I told him that he taught it to me a few sessions back

A glad moment — when I received consulting interview invitations from the top 3 firms – something unprecedented after trying (myself) for the past 5 years.

A inspiring moment — when I was encouraged by my instructor, mentioning that Firmsconsulting treats clients as long-term relationships after I was unsuccessful at the end of my consulting interviews.

What would you like changed in the program?

After case interview sessions with the senior instructor. It would have been great if we were to practice with a “assistant professor” / a more junior instructor to reinforce the prior learning – provided such resource is available

Do you believe your coach was effective?

Extremely:

Tailored the program based on my needs (e.g. communication skills, certain frameworks, provided more time when needed, less time when not needed).

Was available for tactical questions (e.g. networking, how to respond to recruiter)

Do you personally believe the sessions were tailored for your own development?

Yes very much so, please refer to my response on points 1.b.iii. & 7.a.i above.

What are your thoughts on using former McKinsey/BCG worldwide practice leaders to coach clients?

It is amazing, here’s why:

Insights from the top 3, BBM firms e.g. not only senior partners from only 1 firm which is what Firmsconsulting previously had.

Senior partners are arguably the most representative person in a consulting firm. Since you cannot judge P&G for example, from comments from just some Brand Managers.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for the opportunity to learn from Michael.
