Did you enjoy the program? If yes, how?
I enjoyed the program very much. I knew nothing about case studies and consulting before I spoke with Michael and I have to say I was very happy with the training I got from Michael. I have a strong experience in top tier investment banks –capital markets- and I wanted to join a consulting firm. I found some of Firmconsulting videos on YouTube and I thought they were very clear, structured and straightforward.
The training is well structured. It starts with basic market sizing questions and ends with tough cases. Michael is very professional and very experienced. He teaches very well, he is patient and knows all the tricks and all the mistakes candidates usually make. His methodology is very efficient. Sometimes I thought I knew how to solve a basic question but Michael showed how to improve the structure of my reasoning and the way I could resolve each case.
The training helps me every day in any project I undertake. Michael helped me improve the way I solve problems. And I am not exaggerating.
Did the program meet your expectations? If yes, how?
The program did meet my expectations. I wanted to get trained for the top consulting firms’ interviews with a professional person in a short period of time – 1 month- and I reached my goal. Firmconsulting offers an access to a very comprehensive base of case studies and Michael is always happy to answer all the questions. He is very reactive. I learnt a lot and I would say the training was above my expectations. I didn’t think I could learn so much in such a period of time.
What was the most important learning’s from the program?
I think the most important thing was that Michael helped me better structure my reasoning and the way I resolve cases. He also helped me improve my communication skills. Michael does not hesitate to challenge the candidates during the case studies.
Did you feel the program provided an advantage for you versus your own/other preparation? If so, in what way?
Definitely yes! There are a few books that are good but nothing replaces an experienced professional who knows how to train candidates and who knows how what top consulting firms expect. The best way to train for an interview, according to me, is to practice with professionals – especially ex-partners.
Resolving cases became a second-nature skill thanks to his training. I did look at other books because I was worried that the training offered by Firmsconsulting wouldn’t t be sufficient – and I wanted to get a second opinion – but I have to say that the training I received covers everything one needs to know in order to do well in interviews. The training is a bit expensive but it is worth it as one does not waste time looking at books without knowing if they are good enough.
Can you recall any memorable moments?
Yes. I do remember that before some sessions I wanted to impress Michael but he gave me a hard time during the sessions by challenging me. I was a bit disappointed by my performance at the end of some sessions but it motivated me to work harder. Michael is very friendly and knows when to stop challenging candidates.
I also remember the day I solved a difficult case by myself and Michael was very impressed – I think it was a question saying “how much could UPS save if it allowed it’s trucks to turn right instead of stopping at the red light”. This was one of my last sessions and this is a case I would never have been able to solve without all the training.
What would you like changed in the program?
I think it would be good to get one or two sessions with another person from Firmsconsulting in order to try a different interviewer and get his/her opinion.
Do you believe your coach was effective?
SUPER effective coach! Strong methodology, strong experience, very good knowledge of the industry. And Michael always gives additional time.
He is very dedicated to his students’ success and this was much appreciated. I would definitely recommend him.
Do you personally believe the sessions were tailored for your own development?
Yes absolutely. First Michael identified my weaknesses and then he helped me strengthen these at every session. I learnt a lot from Michael from a human point of view as well.
Michael has a very strong international background which enables him to adapt to his candidates and help them make progress at every level.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am very grateful for the training I got from Michael and I would not hesitate calling Michael if I need more training in the future.
