Did you enjoy the program? If yes, how?
It was not only very interesting to work with Michael but very exciting also.
When interacting with Michael you physically feel his passion to provide you with best coaching possible to strengthen your profile.
Did the program meet your expectations? If yes, how?
The program exceeded my expectations as I received more than expected. The techniques and overall approach to problem solving I was exposed to made me feel like my MBA was far from real life.
Three months of coaching provided by Michael brought me to the real world of strategic consulting. All my approaches were challenged and with every coaching session I became stronger and stronger in problem solving and analysis.
What was the most important learning’s from the program?
To become a great consultant you should not only be a great performer or have an excellent skill set – you should also work on your personality and character.
And Michael was able to infect me with this spirit of constant self-development.
Do you feel the program provided an advantage for you versus your own/other preparation? If so, in what way?
It’s just like in any eastern spiritual practice: you can’t really master your skills without an experienced teacher on whom you can rely without any doubts. Michael became such a teacher for me and I will be happy to keep relations with him in my future career development.
Can you recall any memorable moments?
A lot of moments are worth recalling but I especially remember one.
I was sitting in the BCG office and waiting for the first round interview. I checked my email and received a message from Michael. It was a short one: “Do not take prisoners”. I smiled and really believed at that moment that I would successfully pass the round.
What would you like changed in the program?
I see a number opportunities for improvement:
• Provide students with written materials for preparation to particular aspects of the case interview. For example, about some commonly used types of concepts. It will help to prepare for these particular aspects especially if the candidate does not have a good MBA or strong Masters Degree in economics / management / finance.
• Provide students with a written list of recommended reading.
• It would be great to have an option to extend the period of interaction with the coach/mentor for 1, 5 or even 3 years perspective. I perceive this program as not only preparation to admission at strategic consulting firms, but also as a preparation to a real work as a consultant. And it would be great to have some support when you start and face your first project or first business development activities.
Do you believe Michael was an effective coach?
No doubts on that.
Nevertheless I was not able to get a position at target companies I made it to final round at BCG and McKinsey. And I strongly believe that I will join one of these two companies in future.
Do you personally believe the sessions were tailored for your own development?
Sure. You just feel it. Nothing to discuss.
What are your thoughts on using former McKinsey/BCG worldwide practice leaders to coach clients?
It is a great idea which I strongly support. The more there are very senior partners in the Firmsconsulting community – the deeper learning students will get. And that is especially true when we are speaking about actual consultants mentoring.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just would like to say thank you to Michael and to whole Firmsconsulting team!
