In this podcast Michael and Tom discuss a concerning potential change in McKinsey’s up or out policy. McKinsey consultants are being managed out such that a future career background check indicates they left the firm “not in good standing”, without cause other than not being a good fit.
This is a significant change. It upends McKinsey’s entire business model.
We do not know if this is a pilot towards implementing a change in the official up or out policy or if a recruitment director is “experimenting” without official approval. However, either way, the wheels are in motion to cause irreparable damage to McKinsey’s future if action is not taken to correct this sooner rather than later.
