A project many others will find in·sur·mount·a·ble

It’s very valuable to have a book you can be proud to share with colleagues, prospective and current clients, and potential partners. The kind of book that immediately meaningfully increases your credibility. The kind of book that allows your reputation to precede you.

But to have a book like that, you need to:

  • Have enough quality content for an entire book.
  • Pitch your book to professional publishers and deal with a lot of rejection.
  • Maybe decide to self-publish your book instead after seeing that none of the publishers are interested, and most likely, they are not going to promote it anyway, so you might as well publish it yourself.
  • Write the whole book, draft after draft, potentially hiring a ghostwriter or writing coach to help or do it for you.
  • Edit your book.
  • Figure out the right dimensions, type of paper, margins, type of cover, etc. for your book.
  • Develop a professional design for your book.
  • Professionally lay out your book.
  • Design a professional cover for your book.
  • Get all administrative things set up, such as getting ISBNs, bar codes, etc.
  • Create your book in all necessary formats.
  • Review final files and fix all errors.
  • Select distributors for your book.
  • Register with distributors for your book.
  • As needed, do back and forth with distributors with rounds of edits to your book before they accept your files for publishing.
  • Develop a marketing plan for your book.
  • Build a launch team for your book.
  • Do a heavy outreach to find promotional opportunities for your book.
  • Potentially run ads for the launch since you may not have a big enough audience to support the launch.
  • Figure out how to get reviews for your book.
  • Do a heavy marketing push with big budget in hope of getting to #1 bestseller all on your own.
  • Be the only author in the book, so any negative review will be about your work.
  • Be the only person who is asking for reviews for your book since you are the only author.
  • Be the only person who will be promoting your book since you have no co-authors and no publisher to help you.
  • Deal with publishing issues distributors may raise from time to time, which may take your book out of circulation.

The list goes on…

Most people don’t have the capacity (and budget) to take on a project like this.

So how can you end up with a book you can be proud to share with potential clients, current clients, colleagues, and network without having to invest so much time, money, effort, and life into the project?
